A surgeon certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery has training, knowledge and experience related to the diagnosis and comprehensive management of surgical conditions in the areas listed below. This includes preoperative, operative, and postoperative care, as well as the treatment of complications in these areas.

General surgeons are also trained in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, ultrasonography, endoscopy, and robotic surgery—surgical techniques that employ videoscopic instrument to examine or treat internal organs, and which are commonly used in surgical management.

Areas in which general surgeons are trained to provide care:

Digestive Tract – esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus

Abdomen – stomach, diaphragm, biliary tract, liver, pancreas, spleen, and all types of hernias

Breast – all types of benign and malignant disease

Dermatologic Surgery – which includes skin and underlying tissues - all types of benign and malignant disease, including melanomas

Endocrine System – thyroid and parathyroid glands, pancreas, and adrenal glands

Head and Neck Surgery – endocrine, benign, and malignant disorders, birth defects

Surgical Critical Care – care of critically ill patients with surgical conditions requiring intensive care

Surgical Oncology – surgical management of cancer treatment and coordination of all aspects of cancer care. Includes: esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer and colon rectal cancer

Trauma and Burns – all phases of care for the injured or burned patient from the emergency department to rehabilitation, including intensive care

We welcome Dr. Borges, MD, to Galliano Surgical Group.

Dr. Borges has a wealth of experience, training first in Cuba and then working there as attending surgeon specialized in Minimal Invasive Surgery for almost three years. He then came to the United States where he completed another residency in General Surgery at the University of
Buffalo in order to become US board certified.

As a General Surgeon with more than 10 years of experience, including international medical mission, he is able to take care of patient with many different complex surgical conditions, including benign and malignant disease of the neck, chest, breast, abdomen and pelvis, both in an
elective and urgent setting.

During his training, Dr. Borges honed his open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques and is now skilled at performing these different types of surgeries depending on the case indication and requirements.
By working in different countries and with patient of very diverse backgrounds, Dr. Borges brings a unique experience that allows him to handle any surgical condition with accuracy, efficiency, and compassion.
